Thai Yoga Massage

An ancient practice of wellness & relaxation.

Thai Yoga Massage opens the body and encourages deep relaxation through breath awareness, gentle yoga stretches, rocking motions and pressing techniques.

Benefits of Thai Massage

The massage improves flexibility and circulation, relieves tightness and pain, and creates an overall sense of balance and wellbeing. The massage is also very adaptable based on the clients needs and preferences. It can be modified to offer a gentle & passive or deep & vigorous massage.

Origins

This practice descends from both ancient Indian and Chinese perspectives of the body and health. The massage draws on the Indian tradition of yoga to stretch the body and Ayurveda (the Indian science of life) to customize the massage for an individual's disposition. There is also an awareness of sen lines, the energetic meridians of the body as inherited from traditional Chinese medicine and Tui Na. Over centuries in Thailand, these systems have been cultivated into a massage practice and merged with meditation. Some even believe that Thai Yoga Massage originated in the teachings of the Buddha's personal physician. At the heart of the massage is an understanding of Meta, a Buddhist term meaning loving-kindness. The massage is a wonderful opportunity to offer yourself a little Meta, nurturing and relaxation.

What to expect...

Thai Yoga Massage massage is most commonly practiced on a mat on the ground and props like blankets and pillows may be used for additional support. The recipient wears loose, comfortable clothing and is advised not to eat at least 30-60 minutes prior to the massage. The massage will begin with a brief physical assessment to discuss any physical concerns or health precautions before proceeding. We will find the appropriate pressure for your body and comfort. The recipient then becomes still, receiving the benefits of yoga and massage without the effort. Often termed "lazy-man's yoga," you can just relax while the body is gradually opened towards a comfortable edge. A massage generally takes an hour and a half.
